Link Building for your site
We mentioned earlier that the Search Engine spidering software loves HTML code, text and Links. It loves links because that's how it finds it's way around the internet.
These days submitting your site to the Search Engines and asking them to come and visit and Index your site is generally ignored. They would much rather find your site by following a link to it from another site.
Search Engines love links but they love some links more than others. For example, a simple link exchange (reciprocal link) doesn't have as much value and doesn't receive the same weight as a non-reciprocal (one-way) link - the theory being that a one-way, in-bound link is a recommendation from a site owner to visit this linked site. The link, itself, is testament to the quality of the site being referred, and a link from a site already highly ranked by that Search Engine will carry even more weight.
The quickest way to get your new site indexed is to begin a programme of Inbound Link building, particularly from certain Directories. About 80% of new sites are Spam and the Search Engines don't want to be showing these sites in their results. They therefore love sites that appear in The Yahoo Directory or DMOZ Directory. Both of these Directories are edited by Humans (most Directories arn't - you simply submit your site and it gets a listing). Because you can only get into these Directories if an editor has approved your site the Search Engines know that your site is not spam.
